An Azerbaijani diplomat has been appointed Permanent Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the European Union.
The candidacy of Agshin Mehdiyev, the ambassador, was nominated by the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, the ministry said.
The OIC Secretary General approved the candidacy of Mehdiyev.
Mehdiyev will take up his duties on December 1, 2015.
Previously, he was the permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe (2001-2006) and the United Nations (2006-2014).
