The agreement on common aviation area, known as Open Skies, between Azerbaijan and the EU would open up huge opportunities, Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev, Azerbaijan’s deputy foreign minister, told Trend in Baku Nov. 4.

Mammad-Guliyev said that the agreement will allow increasing the number of flights to Europe, expanding humanitarian and tourism ties between Europe and Azerbaijan and there will be an opportunity to carry out flights to new directions.

He also noted that the new agreement will allow increasing contacts and exchanging experience.

The Open Skies Agreement is aimed at liberalization of the air traffic market between parties, and will allow simplifying the process of organization of air traffic between the EU and Azerbaijan, contributing to the growth in the number of commercial flights.

The Open Skies Agreement envisages the elimination of state interference in business decisions on routes and pricing of air carriers that allows operators to provide more accessible and efficient services on passenger and cargo traffic.
