Military factor plays an important role in fair settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan will continue to build up its military potential, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev making an opening speech at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socioeconomic development of the first quarter of 2018 and future tasks.
“At our initiative, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has adopted an important resolution on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Our position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, that’s to say, the fair position was once again confirmed during the conference held in Baku,” said the head of state. “Our international position has become even stronger within these international events and at the same time, as a result of the visits to Azerbaijan and negotiations held in a bilateral format. During all meetings, I convey to my colleagues and those with whom I meet the truth about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan’s position on the conflict’s settlement. Every time I say that Nagorno-Karabakh is the ancient, historical Azerbaijani land, which was occupied by the occupant country.”
President Aliyev pointed out that as a result of this occupation more than a million Azerbaijanis were subjected to ethnic cleansing.
“Our lands are under occupation, our historical monuments, mosques have been destroyed by Armenian vandals. I say that all international organizations have adopted fair decisions and resolutions on this conflict on the basis of the international law. This conflict should be resolved only within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity,” said the head of state.
As a result of these meetings and in general, as a result of our activities in this regard, today, there is a full legal framework for the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said the president, adding that no state recognizes the so-called “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” and will not recognize.
President Aliyev added that no one has recognized the “referendum” held by the criminal junta regime last year. This is the next blow to the occupiers by the international community, added the head of state.
“As a result of our efforts, this fictional regime is known on the region’s map as a black spot. We should further show our coherent activity in this direction. Our activity in international organizations is very important. It is true that there are no practical results and our lands are still under occupation. We liberated part of our lands by military means. But the legal framework is the basic condition for the settlement of the conflict. Azerbaijan has gained full privilege in this regard and our activity in international organizations will be even stronger in the years to come,” said President Aliyev.
“I would like to note that as a result of our activity and at the same time, as a result of the new attitude to separatism that emerged in Europe, the resolution adopted at the Eastern Partnership conference on conflicts in EU also reflects justice and the international law.”
The resolution once again confirmed the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of borders of the participating countries, said the head of state.
“At the same time, we pursue and will pursue our coherent policy for the settlement of the conflict in all other directions. First of all, after the political approach, the military factor of course plays its role and it will be so. Army building is a priority for us today and will be a priority tomorrow as well. We have created a strong military potential over the last years,” said the president, adding that thanks to this military potential, today, the Azerbaijani army is among the strongest ones on a global scale.
“All institutions engaged in international affairs and ratings confirm this. We will continue purchasing the most modern weapons, ammunition and equipment in order to ensure continuous military superiority, as it is ensured today.”
President Aliyev noted that this year the Azerbaijani army has held large-scale military exercises.
"These exercises once again demonstrated our strength, frightened our enemy. We know that for a few days they were in panic and waited impatiently for the end of these exercises. That is, it is a reality, it is true. The military factor plays an important role in a fair settlement of the conflict, and we will further strengthen our military potential," Ilham Aliyev said.
