By Samir Ali - Trend:

The recognition of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the final statement of the Francophonie summit in Yerevan, the meeting of the president of Armenia with the head of Kosovo, and the refusal of the president of Serbia to attend the summit are the events that complement each other, Chief Editor of the Baki Xeber newspaper and political expert Aydin Guliyev told Trend.

It is obvious that the current leadership of Armenia, starting from April, continues the course that runs counter to the political interests of Russia, he added.

He noted that by meeting with the leadership of Kosovo, Armenia demonstrates that it does not show respect for the territorial integrity of Serbia and the geopolitical interests of Russia, which Armenia considers to be its historical ally, and also strikes a blow against Russia’s interests.

“Armenia’s support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine is not a sign of respect for the norms of international law, but an attempt to break ranks with Russia and fulfill the policy of certain centers in the West. If the leadership of Armenia clearly respected the international principle of territorial integrity, it would refuse aggression towards Azerbaijan and would return the occupied lands of the country," the expert added.

He noted that the recent actions of Armenia are nothing but a betrayal of its historical ally, Russia, and a contradictory attitude to the international principle of territorial integrity.

"It is impossible to understand Armenia, which supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, builds equal relations with Kosovo, violating the territorial integrity of Serbia, and does not want to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," Guliyev said.

He noted that the world community received a weighty fact for comparing the state policies pursued by Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"While Azerbaijan treats with respect the international principle of territorial integrity, and its own allies and partners, Armenia demonstrates an obvious betrayal of its allies, as well as a controversial approach to international law. That country recognizes the international principle of territorial integrity when it is beneficial, and violates that principle and even betrays its allies when it isn't beneficial," Guliyev said.

He noted that in the context of the Francophonie event, it has been confirmed once again that Azerbaijan is the only reliable strategic ally of Russia in the region, and it also confirms the inclination of Armenia to betray at every given opportunity.
