BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. A joint session of the committees of Azerbaijan's Parliament on legal policy, state building and defense, security and corruption fighting in Shusha [liberated from Armenian occupation in the 2020 second Karabakh war] has ended, Trend reports.

The bills considered at the session were recommended for discussion at the plenary session of the parliament.

During the meeting, the MPs first discussed the bill "On approval of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Governments of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia on "Caucasian Eagle" exercises of special forces”.

The term of the MoU is one year. It’s automatically extended for another year, unless one of the parties, 30 days before the expiration of the document, notifies the other parties in writing through diplomatic channels of its intention to terminate it.

The memorandum can be canceled 30 days after the date of receipt of the notice.

The document may be amended and updated by mutual agreement of the parties. Such amendments and updates are an integral part of the memorandum. They are drawn up as a separate document and come into force in the same manner as the memorandum itself.

Besides, the memorandum envisages exemption from customs duties and taxes on the import of supplies and equipment into the country where the “Caucasian Eagle” exercises of special forces will be held.

Then, the bill "On amendments to the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and the law "On currency regulation" was discussed.

The MPs noted that according to the proposed amendments to the Criminal Code, non-transfer of significant foreign exchange funds (received as a result of foreign economic activity and subject to mandatory transfer to the account of an authorized bank of Azerbaijan in accordance with the country’s legislation) from abroad will be punished by imprisonment for up to three years.

According to the proposed amendments to the law "On currency regulation", the requirements for foreign currency accounts of residents will be tightened.

Unless otherwise established by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, residents will be obliged to transfer the received foreign currency to their accounts in the authorized banks.

Following the discussion, the bills were recommended to be discussed at the plenary session of the parliament.
