ZANGILAN, Azerbaijan, May 30. It is planned to reconstruct 3 towns, 5 settlements, and 24 villages in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts by the end of 2026, special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts Vahid Hajiyev said, Trend reports.

He made the announcement during the III International Conference on Humanitarian Demining on the theme “Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines - Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future”.

“Today, construction is underway in East Zangezur and Karabakh, with active projects in different parts of the region. Our main task includes the reconstruction of 3 cities, 5 towns, and 24 villages in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan. The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026,” he emphasized.

He said that these initiatives are based on the principles of modern urban planning that prioritize sustainability, inclusiveness, and safety.

“One of the major challenges during the reconstruction is mine clearance and security. These areas were heavily contaminated with mines during nearly 30 years of occupation, making them some of the most affected areas,” he added.

To note, more than 300 delegates from 75 countries are taking part in the III International Humanitarian Conference on Mine Action, organized by Azerbaijan. Among the participants are top officials of several countries, leading staff of the UN Head Office, representatives of authoritative international organizations, officials of demining centers of various countries, as well as officials of diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan.
