BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21. Armenia does not want to make peace with Azerbaijan on fair terms, Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia) Igor Korotchenko told Trend on the sidelines of the Second Shusha Global Media Forum on the topic “Exposing false narratives: combating disinformation".

"Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a recent global international event in the UK. This shows the duplicity of Armenia’s position, its reluctance to conclude a peace treaty on fair principles. These are the five principles that were set out by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev," Korotchenko said.

According to him, countries such as France are trying to influence Yerevan and slow down the preparation and conclusion of a peace treaty. He said that France wants to pump Armenia with weapons and make it a new source of instability.

"Therefore, the situation is difficult, but I think that Azerbaijani diplomacy will achieve the goals it sets for itself. A peace treaty is important to everyone. Russia expects the signing of this document. We would really like this to happen at least before the end of this year, maybe in November. But so far, Pashinyan’s position, unfortunately, does not allow for optimism. It is important to force Yerevan to fulfill its obligations under paragraph 9 of the tripartite statement of November 10, 2020," Korotchenko added.

The Second Shusha Global Media Forum, organized on the occasion of the 149th anniversary of the national press of Azerbaijan, is attended by more than 150 foreign guests from 50 countries, including news agencies from 30 countries, 3 international organizations and 82 media entities. Among the participants of the Global Media Forum are representatives of foreign media, as well as representatives of Azerbaijani media, experts and officials of Azerbaijan.

The forum will last until July 22.
