BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. The “For Civil Society” Election Observation Coalition has analyzed in connection with registered candidates based on the data of the Central Election Commission and open sources, Trend reports.
The age ratio of the 1,052 people whose candidacies were registered is as follows: 39.4 percent are aged 18-39, 43 percent are 40-59, and 17.6 percent are 60 years and older. Of these, 26.4 percent are women and 73.6 percent are men.
This data is reflected in the report, which the Coalition of Election Observers “For Civil Society” presented on August 20 in connection with the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan.
The report states that 308 registered candidates are representatives of 25 political parties. A total of 592 authorized representatives of 25 political parties were registered.
The active participation of NGO representatives in the electoral process is observed. A total of 20 candidates were registered as NGO representatives in 17 constituencies. Out of these candidates, 16 were nominated on their initiative as NGO representatives, 2 from the PEA list, one from the Umud party, and one from the Ana Vatan party. Of the candidates, 15 are NGO chairpersons and the rest are NGO representatives.
The gender composition of NGO candidates is equal: 10 women, and 10 men. Research shows that in the same constituencies (35 and 81) there is a struggle between 2 representatives of NGOs.
However, on the official page of the CEC, 10 chairpersons of NGOs registered as candidates have other jobs. Six of these persons are men and four are women. Five persons nominated their candidacies on their initiative, the rest from different parties (2 from the Justice, Law, and Democracy Party, one from the Umud Party, one from the Ana Vatan Party, and one from the Civic Solidarity Party).
The candidates of these individuals are registered in 10 electoral districts (9, 17, 15, 24, 32, 50, 65, 70, 90 and 119). A total of 30 representatives from the NGO sector are participating in the election.
On June 28, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree dissolving the sixth convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and calling for an extraordinary election.
The snap parliamentary election in Azerbaijan is scheduled for September 1, 2024.
