BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Parliamentary elections were open and transparent, and Azerbaijan's democracy is developing, the Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Omar Kocaman told reporters, Trend reports.
He noted that another feature of these elections is that the first parliamentary election was held in the territories liberated from occupation.
“The election was held under international standards, electoral legislation. This election is important for the future of Azerbaijan. With the renewed Azerbaijani Parliament, Azerbaijan will continue to develop as a central country of the Turkic world," he added.
To note, extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on September 1.
According to preliminary data, voter turnout at the elections amounted to 37.27 percent. The number of voters casting their ballots amounted to 2,196,771. A total of 5,895 polling stations submitted their protocols to the CEC.
A total of 112,749 domestic observers were registered to observe the election. More than 65,000 of them were representatives of political parties.
There were 598 registered international observers from 69 different nations, representing 51 different organizations.
Out of 990 registered candidates in the parliamentary elections, 305 are representatives of 25 political parties. Whereas 371 candidates are members of political parties, they were not nominated by the parties to which they belong. A total of 676 candidates have political party affiliation.
