OVER HALF OF POLLED IN AZERBAIJAN AGAINST STATIONING OF US MILITARY BASES IN COUNTRY

The results of the August public opinion poll, held by the sociological center “Ray” (�Opinion’) in 33 populated localities of Azerbaijan revealed, that over half of the respondents are against stationing of the American military bases in the country, the centre’s director Rizvan Abbasov told Trend.

Тhus, on the question “Do you support the idea of deployment of the military bases of the USA or any other states?” 54,3% of respondents replied, they are adversaries of establishing military bases and only 20,6% admitted implementation of such an idea.

At the same time, on the question “What would be your attitude to involvement of Azerbaijan in the conflict between the USA and Iran”? the most respondents, 58% replied, their attitude would be negative, and 11,1% would approve participation of Azerbaijan in the American-Iranian conflict. Nearly 1/3 of the polled, 30,9% had difficulties in responding.

Opinions on the issue of external allies of Azerbaijan divided. On the question “What forces you would like to see as the closest ally of Azerbaijan?” the relative majority of the respondents (37,4 %) replied, that they would like to see the USA, Turkey, the European countries, Russia and Iran simultaneously as the closest allies of Azerbaijan.

23,5 % would like to see Turkey as an ally, 20,2 % - the USA and Europe, 18,1 % - Russia and only 0,8 % of the respondents preferred cooperation with Iran.

The poll was conducted among 1400 respondents at the age of 18 and older by way of the direct interviewing.
