New speaker of Milli Majlis appointed

Oktay Asadov was elected the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan at the first sitting of the parliament of new convocation held Friday through secret balloting with 105 pros and 1 cons, Trend reports.

Murtuz Alasgarov, the former speaker of the parliament, nominated his candidacy to this post. There was no other nominee.

Reference: Asadov Oktay Sabir oglu, 50, born in West Azerbaijan, graduated from the Azerbaijani Institute of Oil and Chemistry. He was appointed the President of the Absheron Water Company in 1996 and the chairman of Azersu Joint Stock Company in 2005. He has sat in the parliament since 2000. He is married with 2 children.

Asadov balloted in the election from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and collected 53.46% of votes at the 6 November parliamentary elections.
