Azerbaijan, Central Asian countries for co-op under SPECA

Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries are for intensifying the activities of the Coordinating Council of UN Special program for economy of Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries (SPECA). The Foreign Ministry announced the statement was sounded in a meeting of the Coordinating Council, held in Baku with the participation of representatives from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan, as well as the UNDP and the ADB.

Azerbaijan supports the initiatives by the member-counties on increase of potential on information, technologies, attraction of donors to the implementation of SPECA programs, expansion of cooperation with different international organizations.

In the end the meeting resolved to admit Afghanistan to SPECA, adopted reports by working groups, considered some new projects. The gathering also focused on preparations for organization of the first meeting of the Management Board of SPECA and an economic forum in Baku in June 2006.
