In January to February 2006 the communications enterprises provided population and economic subjects with services worth 70.1m AZN, or 26.5% more than 2005. Of them 24.5% was rendered to public enterprises, 75.5% - private companies, which rose 15.2% and 30.6% respectively. A total of 78.2% of all services was delivered to people.

In tjis period the Ministry handed in 22,432 telephobe numbers.

Over the first month of 2006 the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies invested 2506,300 manats in the telecommunications sphere. In this period Aztelekom invested 279,100 manats in the development of the communications sector, Baki Telefon Rabitasi - 127,900 manats, Teleradio 48,900 manats. The funds were directed at the reconstruction of the communications facilities, construction of new telephone lines in the outskirts Baku and in the regions of Azerbaijan.

Significant rise was observed in regions, except Absheron: the telecommunications services in the economic zone Aran rose 20.5%, Absheron 5.5%, Guba Khachmaz 11.1%, Shirvan 11.7%, Shaki Zakatala 26.5%, Ganja-Gazakh 37.1%, Nakhchivan - 6.4% and in Lankaran - 9.9%.

Incomes from the mobile communications comprised 47.9m manats, or 31.7% up as compared to last year. Azercell, a joint venture between Azerbaijan and Turkey, is capable of serving 2.1 million subscribers. At present it has 1,750,000 subscribers, or 80% of the total.

The company a control system in basic stations, 2 subscriber base, 12 centers for commutation of mobile commuinication and over 750 basic radio stations.
