Mass Meeting to Be Held in front of Iranian Parliament on May 28, 2006

As a continuation of the protest action held by Iranian Azerbaijanis over the recent days, a mass meeting will be held in front of the Tehran parliament on May 28, 2006 at 10.00 p.m. with Tabriz time, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijan Center for Strategic Researches. The mass meeting is expected to bring together Azerbaijanis from the cities of the South Azerbaijan such as Tabriz, Ardabil, Urmu, Zandjan, Hamadan, Gazvin, Garadj, Miyana, Khoy, Sulduz, Goshachay, Soyug Bulag, Marand, Khyov, Akhar, Achabshar, Tufargan, Bichar, Erak, Gum, Astara, Maki, Salmas, Shabustar, Garmin, Shahriyar, Islamshahar and other cities.

The demands and resolution of the mass meeting are already ready. The South Azerbaijanis require that Azerbaijani language should be declared as an official language in Iran, Azerbaijanis should get secondary and higher education in their native language, Azerbaijanis should be allowed to publish the mass information media newspaper, magazine, radio, television belonging to them in Azerbaijani language and officially disseminate them.

The demands also include the creation of opportunities for free activity of Azerbaijani and Turkish language and literature, national music, opening of culture centers and etc.
