New Azerbaijan Party to take active part in repeat municipal elections

The New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will take an active part in the repeat municipal elections scheduled for October 6, 2006, Ali Ahmadov, the executive secretary of NAP, made such a statement in his interview to journalists, Trend reports.

He remembered that NAP took an active part in municipal elections in December, 2004. In the near future, the conception of the elections giving base to the success of NAP will be defined, told Ahmadov.

Touching on the statement of opposition block Azadlig (Freedom) and opportunities to participate at the repeat municipal elections after changes to the Electoral Code of the republic, Ahmadov noted there was no need for the activities of parties not taking part in the political life of the country, primarily elections. Ahmadov asked questions:

What activity will the party not participating in elections carry out? noting that it is unreasonable to put forward conditions for participating at elections.

The present Electoral Code highly recommended itself as being in November 2005 parliamentary elections and May 13, 2006 repeat parliamentary elections. Changing the Code simply for the sake of change is inaccurate, told Ahmadov.
