Formation of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan (CEC) on a equal basis is a very difficult issue, Chairman of Opposition Great Establishment Party, MP Fazil Gazanfaroglu told Trend.
Touching on the changes in the composition of CEC, the Deputy stressed that the question was discussed in Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament], but no effective alternative was found. Formation of CEC on an equal basis is very difficult. I think that the composition of CEC should include the representatives forming a minority in Milli Majlis. This alternative may partly resolve the problem regarding the formation of CEC, he stressed.
Gazanfaroglu underlined that in the future, this function may be implemented by any State Department. He added that this function may be fulfilled by the Interior Ministry or Justice Ministry. According to him, the Musavat Party should be represented in the CEC.
Gazanfaroglu is a member of Azerbaijani delegation of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
