Signing of an agreement between Azerbaijan and European Union (EU) regarding co-operation in the energy sphere is expected to take place in November, deputy chairman of Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament] Valeh Aleskerov told Trend.

He stressed that the conformity of the local legislation with the European standards is one of the requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in integration into EU.

According to Aleskerov, both sides, as equal-right partners, should agree up on the strategy and program for conformity of legislation and work on this process. But Azerbaijan will not fully include each directive of EU in the energy sphere. If we had problems with integration into the energy market of Europe, then billion-dollar investments would not be allocated to Azerbaijan, he stressed.

Azerbaijan joined European energy charter in 1997. Accroding to the document, the co-operation is carried out in four directions. They include trade, investment, transit, aspects of energy effectiveness of environment, as well as consultations in the sphere of industry.

The co-operation within the framework of the energy charter is realized in Azerbaijan by inter-departmental group of experts created in 2002. Chairmanship to the group was trusted on the Ministry of Industry and Energy.
