Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku Railway Georgian Section`s Reconstruction to Be Financed by Azerbaijan
The reconstruction of the Georgian section of the railway route Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-baku will be fully financed by the Azerbaijani party, Irakly Ezugbaiya, General Director of JSC Georgian railways told journalists today, Trend Special Correspondent to Tbilisi.
According to him, the Georgian Government works out a credit agreement. In accordance with the agreement, Azerbaijan will grant a timeless credit at the volume of $220 m. without interest to reconstructing the Georgian section of the railway. According to Mr. Ezugbaiya, 192 km of the section of the railway need repair works, and 29 km section from Marabda to Kirtsakha will be built completely.
According to him, 3.5 m tons of oil will be carried via the new route, and that will not affect Georgian sea ports, since the management of the railway starts an active work on attracting new cargo companies-carriers. Mr. Ezugbaiya hopes that the agreement will be signed till the end of September 2006, and the implementation of the project will be completed within 10 months.
