Today, on September 19, Azerbaijan`s Defense Minister Gen.-Colonel Safar Abiyev has accepted the delegation headed by Vice-Admiral Deniz Kutlug, Deputy Director of NATO International Headquarters, Chief of NATO Cooperation and Regional Security Department, the press-servise of the defense Office told Trend today.
The Azerbaijani Defense Minister brought to the notice of the guest that Azerbaijan has cooperated with NATO since 1994 within the NATO Program Partnership for peace, and within the NATO Individual Partnership Activity Plan since May 2004.
In his turn, Vice-Admiral Kutlug pointed out that the Azerbaijani officers have successfully acted in NATO Headquarters, and fulfilled the duties put before them well.
Then Mr. Abiyev told in detail the existing military and political situation in South Caucasus, including the situation over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and exchanged opinions concerning the conflict settlement with the quest.
Gen-Colonel Abiyev also said that the sense of Azerbaijan`s carrying out foreign policy id the development of its economy. Recently we have launched the main export pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, that gave a stimulus to the development of Azerbaijan`s economy. The commissioning of the gas main Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum has also scheduled. Our main aim is to assure the security of the above-mentioned and other oil and gas pipelines, pointed out the Defense Minister.
According to him, the strengthening of the material and technical base of the Azerbaijani Army gives a good confidence that the security of the above mentioned and other oil and gas pipelines will be assured.
