Current Situation with Azerbaijan's Joining WTO Discussed in Baku

A round table discussion devoted to discussing the current situation with the process on Azerbaijan's joining WTO (World Trade Organization). The arrangement was held with the participation of Kato Adrian, Secretary of the Working Group for Azerbaijan of WTO (World Trade Organization) and Arif Hussein, Chief of the Department for the Entrance to WTO of the WTO Secretariat, who are paying a two-day visit to Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

The quests had meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan Economic Development Ministry and Chairman of the State Committee for the Preparation for the Entrance of Azerbaijan to WTO Heydar Babayev, and Head of the Negotiating Group and Deputy Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Makhmoud Mammadguliyev.

Azerbaijan is on its half way to WTO. Your country has a huge potential, though there are some difficulties, pointed out Mr. Hussein. Speaking about the results of the meeting with the Azerbaijani President, he pointed out that the head of the Azerbaijani State had a positive attitude to this process and his position was quite decisive. I saw your huge wish and objective to create modern model economy, transparent system, and WTO, for Azerbaijan, is an integral part in reforming the country, the guest said.

According to him, at present, WTO is paying more attention to issues on services than it was 10 year ago. However, after the entrance to the Organization, , on of the key issues WTO new member-states should fulfill to implement measures on antidumping, reducing subsidies, and pay much attention to the price policy.
