Politics Materials 12 January 2007 19:14 (UTC +04:00)

Zaur Ramazanov, the Chief of the Social and Political Department of the Baku Executive Power, informed Trend that Umud Party appealed to the Executive Power of the Capital too late with a request to hold an action.

He said that the letter written by Umud Party had been received by the Baku Executive Power on January 12, 2007. The party plans to hold an action tomorrow, on January 13. According to Mr. Ramazanov, a letter of advice concerning holding massive actions should be submitted to the Baku Executive Power at least five days prior to the action. The Executive Power of the City usually replies to organizers of the action a day before the action itself. According to Mr. Ramazanov, in this case, Umud Party can not receive permission to hold an action. Tomorrow is a day-off in the Baku Executive Power, therefore, it is impossible to reply to the organizers of the action. Even if the Party makes up its mind to hold a rally, then their arrangement will be considered as unauthorized and be prevented by law enforcement bodies of the country.

Opposition Party Umud with its Chairman, MP Igbal Alizadeh, had plans to hold a rally as a sign of protest against the recent increase in prices in the country. It was planned to hold it in the square in front of the Narimanov Cinema.

Mr. Ramazanov said that no requests concerning a rally had been received from Musavat Party by the Baku Executive Power.
