The Chairman of the State Committee for Problems of Families, Women and Children, Hijran Huseynova, stated at a press conference on February 6th that a statistical base on families is being prepared in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

She said that monitoring is being held with regards to families and according to the final data; there are nearly 1,800,000 families in Azerbaijan. Huseynova stressed that interesting information is being collected in the statistic base and the community will be informed of the results in the near future. During inspections, it was made clear that key problems are linked to the fact that men go abroad and as a result, women remain alone with their children. She said that presently most men return to their families as compared to previous years.

In addition, one of the problems is early marriage and absence of official marriage certificate. According to Huseynova, the law on upping the marriageable age of girls from 17 to 18 has been presented to the Parliament of Azerbaijan, is not accepted unequivocally, there are protesters. She added that the necessity to increase the marriage age of girls and young people falls in line with international conventions.
