Azerbaijani and Egyptian Presidents to Discuss International Situation

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. S. Aghayeva/An Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt is expected to be signed by the Presidents of the both countries, Ilham Aliyev and Khosni Mubarak respectively during an official visit of the head of the Azerbaijani State to Egypt. Yusuf al Sharkavi, Egypt's Ambassador to Azerbaijan said today that the forthcoming visit of the Azerbaijani President to Cairo is expected to be made during the first ten days of May, 2007.

This will be the first official visit of President Aliyev to Egypt. Issues of both an international and bilateral nature are expected to be reviewed at Presidential level during the forthcoming visit.

Both Presidents will exchange opinions on perspectives of political and economic cooperation between the two states, the situation of a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as troubles the Islamic World face nowadays.

"Preparation of the agenda of the visit of the head of the Azerbaijani State is currently underway," said the Egyptian Ambassador.

Numerous documents are expected to be signed as a result of the forthcoming bilateral negotiations. The governments of both states have already prepared 10-13 draft-agreements, which envisage the development of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of agriculture, customs, avoiding double taxation, telecommunication, information and postal services, youth policy and sports, tourism, consulate affairs and extradition of criminals between the two countries. All the mentioned documents are currently being prepared.

On the whole, up to now, the legal and contract base between the two countries has comprised of 16 bilateral documents.
