National Strategy against Corruption Prepared

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. S. Ilhamgizi/ In order to improve the existing legislation, "The National Strategy against Corruption" has been prepared by a working group under the Azerbaijan Committee against Corruption. This piece of information has been made public during the today's round table discussion dedicated to the results of the fulfillment of "The State Programme against Corruption".

Inam Karimov, the Secretary of the Commission against Corruption, said that the initial reading - "The National Activity Strategy" would be put to public discussion the next week.

Notably, Ramiz Mehtiyev, the Chief of the Azerbaijan Presidential Administration, leads the State Committee against.

"The Information Network and NGOs Cooperation on the Combat with Corruption" has conducted a monitoring on the implementation of "The State Programme against Corruption for 2004-2006".

In his report dedicated to this issue, lawyer Alimammad Nuriyev, the Coordinator of the Network, noted that the mentioned programme had been fulfilled only by 54.49%, with 17.25 % of the provisions of the State Programme had been not fulfilled at all.

According to Mr. Nuriyev, since 1999 and up to now, the wage of the judges in the Azerbaijani courts has increased in 20 times. According to him, despite these significant figures, there have been troubles and shortcomings in the judicial system of the Country. There have been a lot of complaints received, which connected with guaranteeing just legal proceedings. The human rights activist also said that at bringing to the accountability, the facts on seizure of property have been set up to increase and inner control and supervision bodies have been formed in many state offices and agencies of the Country.
