Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The next municipal re-election will be held in Azerbaijan in 2007, said the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan (CEC), Mazahir Panahov.
In 2006, repeated, additional, and new municipal elections were organized in Azerbaijan. The CEC annulled the results in several municipalities due to contravention of the law.
According to Panahov, repeated elections will be organized in those municipalities. The date of the election will be confirmed in June. "Repeated elections will be held in 5-6 municipalities. All preparations for them have been carried out. The CIC will try to hold the elections in compliance with the legislation of the country," the CIC chairman said.
Panahov also added that the discussions on inserting amendments and changes in the Election Code of Azerbaijan were in progress between the Azerbaijani Government and international organizations. He noted that the proposals of both sides were under consideration at the time.
"Definite steps have been made in this connection and relevant information will be released within the next 10-15 days," Panahov added.
