President of Azerbaijan Felicitates US President on Independence Day

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend P.Amirjanov / On 3 July the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, sent a letter of congratulations to the President of the United States of America George Bush for Independence Day.

The Azerbaijani leader praised the United States` efforts towards combating global threats and ensuring peace and stability in the world.

In his letter, Ilham Aliyev stressed Azerbaijan-USA relations have reached a level of strategic partnership. He also welcomed US support in reforms towards strengthening the protection of human rights and development of democratization process in Azerbaijan.

Ilham Aliyev emphasized the United States` efforts to establish peace and stability in the region "give huge hopes that our most painful problem - the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh - will be peacefully solved."

The Azerbaijani President said he believes that through help from the USA, which co-chairs the OSCE Minsk Group, "truth and justice will triumph, Armenian occupation will end, Azerbaijan's occupied lands will be freed, the country's territorial integrity will be restored and refugees and internally displaced people will return to their homelands".

Ilham Aliyev wished George Bush health, happiness and a long life, and also continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of the USA.
