Azerbaijani Democratic Party Calls Human Rights Organizations to Recognize Chairman of Region Department of Party as Political Prisoner

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijani Democratic Party (ADP) called for human rights organizations to recognize the recently arrested Nizami Guliyev, chairman of the Balakan regional party, as a political prisoner. The decision was made during the ADP meeting on 9 July.

The incident, in which Nizami Guliyev had fired a weapon at a policeman, occurred as a result of a conflict caused by an electricity power cut in Guliyev's apartment. After a several days Guliyev gave himself up to the police.

The ADP recognizes the incident as a tragedy of society, the members of which were undergoing pressure due to their political beliefs and oppression from social problems.

ADP called on human rights organizations to assist Guliyev and to recognize him as political prisoner.
