Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr A. Gasimova / The Russian military's aviation violation of Georgian airspace and their dropping a bomb on the country contradicts international law norms, according to the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Konstantin Gabashvili.
The Georgian Foreign Minister made a statement that Russia's military aircraft violated Georgian airspace in the evening of 6 August and dropped a bomb on a non-populated area in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone. Georgian Interior Minister, Vano Merabishvili, stated that Georgian Defence Ministry's radars tracked a violation in Georgian airspace by Russia, supposedly by an airplane marked Su-24. The Head Commander's Office of the Russian Air Forces refuted the information.
Gabashvili reported from Tbilisi on 9 August that Russia had taken dirty action and urged that neighbours should not act like that. " Russia is resting on the principle of no harm no foul, that implies you prove our guilt, and then we will see," the expert said.
According to Gabashvili, the single positive consequence in the matter is that the Georgian and Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers have discussed the situation and agreed on further joint actions.
