Azerbaijan’s Azadlyg Bloc Cannot Define Candidate for Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / If Azerbaijan's Azadlyg bloc decides to take part in the presidential elections the Citizens and Development Party (CDP) will not nominate its candidate, Chairman of the CDP, Ali Aliyev reported on 5 September.

Azadlyg includes three opposition parties - the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), the Liberal Party, and the Citizens and Development Party. The leader of the APFP, Ali Karimli, called on the opposition to boycott the elections if changes are not made to the election code.

According to the chairman of CDP, the leader of the Liberal Party, Lala Shovkat, and the APFP, Ali Karimli, stand about the same chance in being nominated.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.
