Prosecutor Demands 4-year Imprisonment for Azerbaijani Former Health Minister’s Attorney

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The Public Prosecutor demanded four years imprisonment for the Azerbaijani former Health Minister's attorney, Rizvan Talibov.

The Public Prosecutor spoke at the hearing at Sumgayit City Court presided over by Judge Tahmina Khalilova, Talibov's attorney, Mushvig Shirinov, told Trend on 19 September. The Prosecutor said that the court investigation completely confirmed the accusation of Talibov and asked the court to sentence him to four years imprisonment.

Talibov and his attorney asked the court to issue the verdict of 'not guilty'. The verdict will be announced on 20 September.

Talibov is charged in compliance with Article 221.2.2 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The criminal case with regards to Rizvan Talibov, the Director of the Committee on Protection of Rights of the Azerbaijani Ex-Minister of Health, Ali Insanov, and the Chairman of the Public Union for Return to West Azerbaijan, was filed on the basis of the appeal of his neighbour. He is being kept in Investigation Cell 3 in Shuvalan settlement. In a recent statement to the press, Talibov included himself in the list of jailed journalists.
