Human Rights Problems to be Discussed with NATO Member-Countries in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.ILhamgizi / The Azerbaijani Committee for Protection of Freedom of Speech appealed to the United States and Britain embassies to hold discussions with NATO member-countries due to the state of human rights in the country, Arzu Abdullayeva, the chairman of the Committee, reported.

According to Abdullayeva, Azerbaijan has a liability before NATO. Therefore, the state of human rights issue will be discussed with the participation of NATO member-countries embassies, as well as representatives of international organizations. The International Conference is scheduled for 9 December with the participation of the Euro Integration Committee, Human Rights Committee, Council of Europe, European Union and NATO member-countries representatives in Baku.

Within the framework of negotiations held in order to attract attention of the West to the problem, Abdullayeva and member of the Freedom of Speech Committee Fuad Mustafayeva met with the Deputy Ambassador of Great Britain in Azerbaijan, Corin Collins, on 26 November. Abdullayeva spoke about the rally scheduled for 8 December in the Ukraine square. The rally is dedicated to the Day of Protection of Human Rights.

Mustafayev reported on the arrest of the Azerbaijani Azadlig newspaper's chief editor Ganimat Zahid.

Collins said they were well informed about the problem. Great Britain is the supporter of democracy and stability in Azerbaijan.
