Lack of Teachers in Azerbaijani Tovuz Region’s Secondary Schools

Azerbaijan, Gazakh / Тrend corr N. Fatullayeva / There is a lack of teachers in the secondary schools of the Azerbaijani Tovuz region's bordering villages.

"There is a lack of over 80 teachers in the bordering villages of Tovuz region. Though the Education Ministry was informed of that, only 6 teachers were sent to the region this academic year," the deputy head of the Tovuz Administration Niftali Gasimov said to Trend on 6 December.

Past year the Azerbaijani Education Ministry passed a state program on elimination of lack in staff in the secondary schools of Azerbaijani remote villages. According to the state program, wages of teachers in remote villages is twice more than that of urban teachers. They are provided with free apartment.

There is a lack of mainly the teachers studying humanitarian subjects, Gasimov said.

After the Education Ministry applied privileges to rural teachers, 10 teachers voluntarily moved to the region, he said.

A total of 85 schools with over 4,300 teachers are functioning in the villages of the Tovuz region, which is locate 500km west of Baku.
