Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / The amendments are expected to be made in the legislation for the short-term termination of the TV channels working in Azerbaijan, to strengthen the control on them.
"The pack of proposals regarding the short-term termination of the TV channels were devised and presented to the Government of Azerbaijan," Gafar Jabiyev the member of Azerbaijan National TV and Radio Council reported to Trend on 25 December.
The activities of the TV channels in Azerbaijan are being regulated in accordance with the Law on Broadcasting. The fines are imposed on the channels breaking the law, and the broadcasting is ceased in accordance to the court decision on the basis of the Council's appeal.
According to Jabiyev, the Council's document suggests, without the court decision, to cease the broadcasting of the TV channels, breaking the law for a short period. In addition, he said that the spring session of Azerbaijan Parliament may discuss the changes in the Law on Broadcasting. At present, seven republic and 14 regional TV channels are running in Azerbaijan.
