Prosecuted Azerbaijani Journalist not Recognize Himself Guilty

Азербайджан, Баку, 10 января /корр. Trend К.Зарбалиева/ Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 January / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The court process took place in Azerbaijan's Court on the Heinous Crimes, with regards to the journalist of Bizim Yol newspaper, who is accused of the bribery.

On 24 July 2007, an employee of the Bizim Yol (Our Way) newspaper, Mushvig Huseynov, was arrested by police. The Prosecutor-General's Office stated that Huseynov was detained for accepting a bribe of $3,500, from an official of the Azerbaijan's Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. A criminal case was filed against Huseynov in compliance with the Article 311.1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The public accuser announced the accusation act. Huseynov did not recognize himself as guilty, according to the initial accusations. The victim Aliyev provided the various evidences. He said that Huseynov demanded bribe from him for the articles published in the newspaper. During their final meeting in Gurd Gapisi restaurant, Huseynov demanded $1000 for telling the source which provided information to write the article and $2500 for not publishing the article in the newspaper.

Later, Elnur Kelenterli, the Head of the Ministry's Press Service, and Agajan Ahmadov, the Deputy Head of Ministry's Administration, provided the evidences. They also confirmed Aliyev's evidences. The process will continue on 17 January.
