Paris Hilton’s brother arrested on suspicion of DUI

(showbizspy.com) - Paris Hilton's 18-year-old brother is following in his sister's footsteps - after he got arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after allegedly knocking down a petrol station attendant.

Barron Hilton careened off a main road into a forecourt, according to US reports. His black Mercedes is said to have struck worker Fernando Pellez.

But while Pellez was not left with any injuries, he insisted on calling the police, he said.

He claimed to US celebrity news website PageSix: "I was knocked to the ground.

"The Mercedes lost control as it was turning into the gas station and Barron got out of the car and he was totally drunk and couldn't walk straight."

He said the incident happened between 6am and 6.30am today at the '76? gas station where he works. It lies off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway in the millionaire's playground of Malibu, California.

Barron Hilton was arrested by police at 8.04am, records show. He reportedly had a 0.14 blood alcohol level - almost twice the legal level of 0.8 for those over the age of 21. But for anyone under the age of 18, any blood alcohol level when behind the wheel is considered legally drunk.

Hilton is said to have had at least one passenger in his car at the time of the arrest. Neither Paris, 26, nor his other sister Nicky, 24, was with him at the time, according to celebrity news website TMZ.com.

Barron was taken to the Lost Hills Sheriff station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department following the arrest, the same police station that Mel Gibson was taken to following his infamous drink-driving arrest in July 2006.

In September 2006 Paris Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Her blood alcohol content at the time was found to be 0.08 percent.

In May 2007 she was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation terms after she failed to enroll in a court-ordered alcohol education programme following the 2006 arrest.

Los Angeles County Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore said: "We can confirm that Barron Hilton was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence at 8:04 am."

He added: "[He] will be released when it is safe to proceed, either by getting a ride or when he is able to drive himself."

The Sheriff's Web site says the charge is a misdemeanor and bail has been set at $5,000 USD. Law sources said no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found in Barron Hilton's car or on his person.

Barron was reportedly mugged by a group of knife-wielding thugs after a night out clubbing in New York in June 2007.

As well as his famous sisters, Barron also has a younger brother, Conrad Hilton.

Socialite Paris Hilton said tonight her thoughts were with her brother.  "I am sad for my little brother. I hear he is doing OK," she said.

"I am there for him and will be speaking to him in an hour or so, hopefully, to lend my support."

Meanwhile their father, real estate broker Rick Hilton, said: "I haven't been contacted yet by either my son or the police.

"If what I have heard is true, it is very disturbing and I will have a lot to say - but it will be to my son not the media."
