Agayeva/ During his official visit to Azerbaijan, which will take place on 6-9 March, the Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone is going to discuss the various prospects for cooperation with Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Switzerland and Vatican Elchin Amirbeyov told Trend in a telephonic conversation, from Bern on 29 February. An extensive visit program has been developed.
"In Baku, Cardinal Bertone will meet with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, the Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, the Chair of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Port Sheik-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, the Chair of the State Committee for Religious Organizations Hidayat Orujev, as well as the heads of the religious sects," the Ambassador said. The Cardinal will visit the mosques, the orthodox church and synagogues.
He is expected to attend the solemn opening of a Catholic church in Baku (10, Nobel Ave). The construction of the Church was financed by the Roman Catholic Church.
There are approximately 250 believers of Azerbaijani catholic community, and the number of the foreign Catholics- temporary living and working in the country, is approximately the same.
