The appeal expressly requests that a fair decision be made against the ex-Minister and his brother.
Farhad Aliyev was condemned for committing corruption-related crimes. They are also accused of a coup d'etat and organization of massive disorder in the country. F Aliyev and R Aliyev were arrested on October 19, 2005. The defendants are charged with abuse of power, bribery, illegal privatization of State property and economic crimes.

The Court noted that Aliyev committed crimes from December 1999 to October 2005. Aliyev committed crimes after putting together a gang of his relatives and officials. The ex-Minister privatized uninhabited areas, which belonged to theSupreme and Appeal Courts, as well as the Historical Architectural Reserve Ichari Shahar ( Old City), the undeveloped Janubsanayatikinti, Sport Shop, 'Caucasus Trade House', as well as uninhabited areas which belonged to theState Telegraphic agency Azertaj, and the scientific-technical library State Standardization, Metrology and Patent Agency. There are 1,287 victims, about 700 witnesses and 164 claimants.
Aliyev was sentenced to ten years imprisonment and his brother to nine years imprisonment.
Other defendants, Gurbanov Maarif was sentenced to seven years and six months imprisonment, Mirmajid Ahmadov - five years, Alikhan Pashayev - four years, Chnigiz Ibadov, Rafik Abbasov, Muhammadnabi Rustamov and Sakit Bakhishov - seven years and six months, Mirsalam Ahmadov, Elchin Huseinov and Gadir Huseinov - six years, Adalat Dadashov - six years, Yusif Gamidov and Ismail Mansimov - two years, and Elshad Abbasov and Agabay Huseinov, Aliyev's former assistants, to one years probation.
