Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 May / corr. Trend E. Huseyinli/ An event was held in the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NASA) dedicated to 85th anniversary of Ahmad Mahmudov, the economic scientist, Doctor of Economy, full member of the NASA and academician.
Mahmudov Ahmad Akbar oglu was born on 25 May 1923 in Shakhtakhti village of Nakhchivan city of Azerbaijan. He graduated from the secondary school in the same village. He has participated in the Great Patriotic War in 1941-45. In 1946, he entered to the State National Economy Institute of Azerbaijan and graduated in 1950 with good grades. In 1956, he presented Ph.D. thesis in the Academy of Sciences of USSR and became candidate of science and Doctor of Economy in 1960. The Economic Institute was established in NASA at the initiative of Mahmudov. He is the author of over 200 scientific works, articles and monographs. He died on 8 May 1989.
Mahmud Karimov, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan said in the event that Mahmudov wrote a history with his deeds. He made a big contribution to the Azerbaijani science, created economic science on intensification, production, and development of agricultural policy of Azerbaijan.
Academicians, economic scientists who spoke at the event said that Ahmad Mahmudov was a scientist sticking to his high moral and ethic principles.
The book 'Urgent Economic Problems in Azerbaijan' consisting of Mahmudov's scientific works was presented at the event. Minister Eldar Mahmudov received the portrait of academic Mahmudov painted by Azerbaijan's national artist Tahir Salahov.
The attendees watched the film about the life and activities of Ahmad Mahmudov. Academician's son Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov, Minister of National Defence of Azerbaijan, thanked the participants of the anniversary. "All what has been said about my father refers to all intellectuals in Azerbaijan," Minister said. According to him, his father used to pay a special attention to staff policy. "My father always acted for formation of Azerbaijani economists," he said.
