Teachers Shortage in Azerbaijani Southern Region

Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 6 June/ corr. Trend P. Aliyeva/ There is a need for 78 school teachers on various subjects in the secondary schools of Azerbaijani Lerik region, Huseynbala Aliyev, head of the Regional Education Department said to Trend .

The Azerbaijani Education Ministry is implementing a special project to address the problem of teachers' shortage in the Azerbaijani regions.

According to Aliyev, there is a need for teachers with higher education on 8 subjects in various schools. In 2007, this indicator made up 122 people. "The schools mostly need teachers of biology (19), physics (17), geography (16), foreign languages (12) and history (10)," he said.

In January, an inquiry was sent to the Education Ministry to appoint teachers for the Lerik region.

Some 1,384 teachers teach 12,036 pupils in 2007-2008 school years in the region.

Lerik is located 300km south of Baku.
