Striker Thierry Henry is hoping to be back to boost France's attack in Friday's Group C encounter with the Netherlands.
Coach Raymond Domenech said Wednesday he was contemplating four changes from the side that played out a drab 0-0 draw with Romania, and the Barcelona striker now appears to be back to fitness.
Henry was absent with a thigh injury and sorely missed by France who struggled to create anything of note in Zurich on Monday.
But the former Arsenal star now appears to have recovered for for his first taste of Euro 2008 action.
Both Henry and captain Patrick Vieira played the whole of a 45-minute match against a local youth selection at Chatel-St-Denis on Tuesday evening.
Vieira's performance indicated he is also on the way back from a thigh muscle injury and could also be ready for selection.
Vieira has been out with a small left thigh tear since May 30 and did not play a part in any of France's three Euro 2008 warm-up but there were already indications at the start of the week that he is close to a comeback.
Matthieu Flamini, who had been called up as cover, has now left the camp in a further sign that Domenech is banking on a recovery.
However, Domenech would not be drawn on his team to face the Dutch, saying merely he was "thinking of changes for four positions."
Vieira and Henry "are progressing normally," Domenech said.
"They played 45 minutes of Tuesday's training game without a problem and are coming along normally. Things are progressing. Today is Wednesday, we'll see by Friday," he added.
The return of both Vieira and Henry would be a massive boost to France who now face two tough opponents in the Netherlands, fresh from a 3-0 trouncing of Italy, and the world champions themselves next Tuesday.
However Domenech indicated he would not be sacrificing defensive stability for all-out attack, despite a call from defender William Gallas Tuesday for a less cautious approach.
Tuesday's evening's training match at Stade de Lusy in the picturesque countryside around Chatel-St-Denis was a decent work-out for Henry and Vieira, even if the French played at a canter.
However, neither showed any negative reaction and Henry managed to score one goal while being involved in most of the others in the 7-0 run-out against a regional under-18 selection.
Gallas said Henry's return would help lift the side.
"Everyone knows Titi's (Henry's) qualities," the Arsenal captain said.
"With his style of play, we can play the ball long. It's another style and it will allow the team to play into space more, and perhaps this will be good against the Netherlands."
Gallas was not involved in the Tuesday evening's session as Domenech fielded players who did not start against Romania.
Samir Nasri, who was a second-half substitute against Romania, staked his claim for a place in the starting line-up by bagging a couple of goals with Henry's assistance, while Patrice Evra, Lassana Diarra, Sidney Govou and Bafetimbi Gomis were others to score.
Euro 2008 has the feel of a home tournament for the French, based in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, and around 2,000 youngsters turned out to provide some boisterous support for the players.
