Andrei Arshavin created one goal and scored another in extra time as Russia upset favourite Netherlands 3- 1 in a Euro 2008 quarter-final played in Basle on Saturday, the dpa reported.

Arshavin scored his side's third on the night in the 116th minute after setting up Dmitri Torbinski four minutes earlier to give coach Guus Hiddink a historic victory against his countrymen and a place in the semi-finals.

The other Russian goal was scored by Roman Pavlyuchenko in the 56th minute, while Ruud van Nistelrooy scored for the Netherlands four minutes from the end to send the game into extra time.

In second half injury time Russian Denis Kolodin was shown a second yellow card after fouling Sneijder, but referee Lubos Michel was told by his assistant that the ball had already crossed the line and the referee then withdrew the booking allowing Kolodin to stay on the field.

In the semi-final the Russians will face the winner of Sunday's quarter-final clash between Spain and Italy in Vienna.
