USA breeze to victory over Greece

(dpa) - The US team chalked up a comfortable 92-69 win over 2006 world championship runners-up Greece on Thursday for a third victory in Group B of the Olympic basketball tournament.

Greece managed to keep the first quarter close, losing just 20-16. but the US team extended their lead to 51-32 at half-time and were 74-54 up at the end of the third quarter.

Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh scored 18 points each, while LeBron James notched 13 points while contributing six assists and six rebounds.

Guard Theodoros Papaloukas was the standout for the Greek team, netting 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Spain joined the US with a maximum points in the group after three matches thanks to a 72-59 defeat of Germany while China downed Angola 85-68.

Lithuania top Group A on maximum points after an 86-79 victory over Russia, with Argentina drawing level on five points with Croatia after defeating the Croatians 77-53.

In the group's other game Australia coasted to a 106-68 win over Iran.
