Ukraine, Kiev, 4 October/ Trend , Z. Novosvitski/ Aleksandr Saponov, lawyer of їcriminal authorityї Rovshan Janiyev, intends to appeal European Court to help his client arrested in Ukraine by the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan who is expected to be handed over to Azerbaijan, he said in a press conference on 3 October.
їWe have decided together with International League for Human Rights to appeal European Court to prevent handing over Rovshan Janiyev to Azerbaijan where he can be subject to corporal punishment. We will employ legal methods for this purpose,ї Saponov said.
Janiyev stood before the court in 1996 in Azerbaijan of murder of a person who killed his father and served 2 years in jail. In 2002, he was granted Russian citizenship and lived in Russia.
Lawyer said Ukraine should not hurry in handing over Janiyev until respective decision will be issued at the complaint of lawyers. Ukraine can hand over Janiyev as a Russian citizen so that this country will issue decision with this regard.
On 13 February 2008, officers of Central Department for Fight Against Organized Crime of Azerbaijan together with their Ukrainianїs respective department arrested Russian citizen Janiyev, 33, so called їlegally thiefї well-known as їRovshan Lankaranskiyї. He was searched internationally by the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan for committing grave crimes.
State Committee for Nationalities and Religion of Ukraine granted political refugee and respective status to Russian citizen Janiyev on 10 June.
