Azerbaijan Wins a Seat in Council of International Gymnastics Federation for First Time

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 October/ Trend / Farid Gayibov, secretary general of the National Gymnastics Federation (AGF) has been elected member of the Council of International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) from Europe. This decision was adopted in the 77th pre-election conference of FIG, Gymnastics Federation of Azerbaijan said.

Representative of Azerbaijan won a seat in one of the leading bodies of the International Gymnastics Federation for the first time. As many as 35 delegates voted for his membership. Gayibov will take part different meetings of the Council together with his colleagues from 20 countries worldwide over the coming four years.

In his telephone interview from Helsinki newly-elected member of FIG said as a supporter of democratic principles in both work and life, he encourages coordination of efforts of the organization to create equal conditions for the development of all kinds of gymnastics.

"I think our common task is also equal right relations with international federations, in particular with the newly-born states and developing countries. I am sure that decisions to be passed in the future will contribute to strengthening role of gymnastics as one of the sports in Olympics program, growth of sports reputation and moral image of the international federation in the international community," he said.

The management of the International Gymnastics Federation did not undergo serious changes. Italian Bruno Grandi was re-elected President of FIG, French Michel Leglis and Japanese Koji Takizava and Slava Korn from Canada were elected vice-presidents.

Only sign of the management of the Technical Committee for Rhythmic Gymnastics changed. Mariya Shishkovska from Poland was elected head of the Technical Committee instead of Italian Egle Abruzzani. Adrian Stoika ( Romania) was elected president of Technical Committee for Men's Sport Gymnastics, Nelly Kim ( Belarus) - for Women's Sport Gymnastics, and Tonya Keys (USA) - for Acrobat Gymnastics and Horst Kunze ( Germany) for Trampoline Tumbling.

Within the conference Azerbaijani delegation led by the Vice-President of the National Federation Altay Hasanov held several meetings on Rhythmic Gymnastics European Cup to be held in Baku on 15 t0 17 May 2009 in Baku.

Meanwhile, international rhythmic gymnastics tournament ended in Udine city of Italy. Azerbaijani gymnast Zeynab Javadli won the same number of points with the Italian gymnast and shared 4th and 5th places.
