Outstanding Singer Muslum Magomayev Buried in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, Baku, 29 October/ Trend , corr I. Alizade/ Muslum Magomayev, People's Artist of USSR and outstanding singer of modern times Muslum Magomayev was buried in his homeland - Baku in the Honorary Cemetery.
The 67-year old outstanding singer died of cardiac insufficiency in Moscow on 25 October. The coffin with the singer's body was brought to Baku with a special flight on 28 October.
The mourning ceremony of Magomayev has been held in the State Philharmonic Hall since the morning. Over 1,000 people have already attended the mourning ceremony including celebrities and ordinary citizens of Baku. First lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva also honored memory of Muslum Magomayev. Representatives from Russia, Magomayev's second homeland, Russian journalists and Tamara Sinyavskaya, Magomayev's widow and people's artist of USSR also attended the morning ceremony.
Muslum Magomayev was born in Baku on 17 August 1942. He studied fortepiano and composing at a musical school at the Baku Conservatory and graduated from the Singing Department of the Conservatory.
Magomayev became famous around the Soviet Union after performing in the Kremlin Palace at the final concert of the Azerbaijani Art Festival in 1962. His first solo concert took place in the Chaykovski Concert Hall on 10 November 1963.
In 1963, Magomayev became a soloist of the Azerbaijani Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Akhundov. In 1964-1965, he worked on probation at the La Scala Theatre in Milan. In 1960, he performed The Barber of Seville in the largest cities of the Soviet Union (Maria Bieshu was among his partners). Magomayev rejected the proposal to pass to the Bolshoi Theatre.
Magomayev won First Prize in Festival held in Sopot in 1969 and Gold Record Reward in Cannes.
In 1973 he was rewarded People's Artist of USSR when he was only 31-years old in addition to the people's artist of Azerbaijan SSR.
