31 countries apply for participation in Baku European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18 / Trend , R.Ergun/ Thirty-one countries submitted a preliminary application for the anniversary 25th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship to be held in Baku on May 15-17, 2009.   Those are Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, UK, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan, the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) in Lausanne said to Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.

Gymnasts of 30 countries will perform in individual tournaments, and 18 teams of the Old World will compete in junior group sextets.

Each country can be represented by three individual sportswomen with one backup team and one junior team for group exercises. Initial schedule of Euro-2009 stipulates that a European champion of team tournaments will be determined in the first two days of the tournament (May 15-16). The best national team of group exercises with five ribbons and winners of individual finals (skipping rope, hoop, ball and ribbon) will be selected on the last day of the competition.

Euro- 2009 in Baku will be the first major competition of the new Olympic cycle. In line with a tradition, competitions among best gymnast of the continent will take place in the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex. Baku viewers will get a unique opportunity to meet with the stars of world rhythmic gymnastics, to watch vivid performances of prize-winners and also-rans of the Beijing Olympics, to feel emotions and the joy of victories. This is an excellent opportunity for all fans of rhythmic gymnasts to watch the latest achievements of rhythmic gymnastics schools of various countries - new programs, new elements. The official logo of the European Championship in Baku, which used the colours of the national flag of Azerbaijan, was named the Whirl of Emotions. Because championship is not just a sports event. For Baku this is a notable event, for athletes this is a place where expectations come true and new "stars" come out. The events one waits and trains for a long time happen here. This is a whirl of dreams, hopes and emotions. A lively and lovely gazelle is the talisman of the Baku European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship.
