On Jan. 5, residents of the Nardaran settlement near Baku held a demonstration against the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Scarecrows of U.S. President George Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert were burned during a demonstration attended by over 1,000 people. Participants called for an immediate end to the offensive and condemned the large number of civilian deaths in the conflict.
The Israeli offensive was launched on Dec. 27 and has claimed the lives of 510 people. Israel has stated the offensive targets Hamas alone and will not be stopped.
