Secondary technical schools in Azerbaijan are burdened with problems, Education Minister Misir Mardanov told media after meeting with representatives from Turkey's Education Ministry. They have a poor financial and technical base and the buildings are in bad condition. Their equipment was purchased 30 years ago,

Only 10 percent of students study in secondary technical schools. The figure is far higher in Turkey at 43 percent, Mardanov said. The number is closer to 70 percent in developed nations, he added.

"I have been to Turkey. The country has a wealth of experience to offer in secondary technical education," Mardanov said.

"We came to the conclusion that Turkey will choose several school models for us and we will restore them based on their initiative," he said.

Representatives of Turkey's Education Ministry visited Azerbaijan as part of an education and science protocol signed earlier.

Turkey's Deputy Education Minister Sadaddin Sabadin headed Turkish delegation.
