Disciplinary proceedings may be launched against judge sentencing editor-in-chief to arrest: Law-Court Council

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 13 / Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva/

Azerbaijani Law-Court Council may launch disciplinary proceedings against the judge who decreed to arrest editor-in-chief, Law-Court Council administration head Javid Huseynov told Trend .

"The information regarding a strict reprimand made by the Baku Appeal Court to the Yasamal district judges Abbas Rzayev and Tahir Ismayilov is not true. Appeal Court's special decision will be forwarded to the Law-Court Council. Whether to launch disciplinary proceedings against judges will be decided at the meeting," Huseynov said.

A chief editor of "Tazadlar" (Contrasts) newspaper was arrested by Baku Yasamal District Court on April 7.

The court decided to sentence Marzili to one-year imprisonment and to involve Mammadova in community work within 6-month.

The Azerbaijan International University (AIU) Rector Elshad Abdullayev, AIU First Pro-rector Huseyn Ahmadov, ABU Teacher Eldaniz Abdullayev and Baku City Taxes Department Inspector Islam Abdullayev filed a lawsuit on Chief Editor Asif Marzili and newspaper employee Zumrud Mammadova to protect their honor and dignity.

The Baku Appeal Court canceled Yasamal Court decision and issued a special decision on the judge who examined the case.

Huseynov said the court has no right to punish judges.

If the Law-Court Council decides to launch disciplinary proceedings, a reporter judge will be on this case. The reporter judge will determine whether the judge has committed violations and will provide a final conclusion.

He said the issue will be discussed at the Law-Court Council as soon as the investigation ends. The judge will be given reprimand or dismissed if he turns out to commit violation.
