Azerbaijan studies an international experience of punishment for destruction of green plantations, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyin Bagirov said on May 7.
"A headquarters combining deputy heads of local administrations in regions, heads of Department for planting of greenery in Baku and other adjusted agencies was created in the Ministry," the Minister said.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has banned felling of trees in order to release territories for construction of private buildings or homes. The President stated that at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of socio-economic development in the first quarter of 2009.
"I've heard that the areas with green plantations are covered with iron fences and cut off. Then a building or house is built in the area. I warn Baku City Administration Mayor Hajibala Abutallibov, as well as other officials to prevent felling of trees," President Aliyev said.
Trees will be cut down only if state projects are implemented, roads are extended and etc.
The headquarters' main objective is to control over planting of greenery, Bagirov said.
